Many masters consider the presence of such a brush a relic of the past, preferring modern tools. However, a true specialist understands the real merits of such a product, and always keeps it at hand. Moreover, for some operations brushes with specific parameters of both the form itself and the bristles are needed. Therefore, very often you can see that the masters in the tool how many such products.

Advantages of a brush with metal bristles


Such brushes have certain advantages even over modern tools:
  • low cost and ease of self-manufacturing;
  • light weight, allowing for long-term operations;
  • It does not require power from the network and does not need batteries;
  • does not take up much space;
  • allows you to work in hard to reach places.

Today, such brushes are very rare in stores. Moreover, their cost is higher than real. Therefore, experienced craftsmen prefer to make such a tool on their own. This allows you to select a specific type of bristle, set its density, the length of the villi and the shape of the handle. You will need for this a small wooden block, a metal cable of the required stiffness and a metal plate.

First we need a wooden block.

Any kind of wood is suitable, but solid grades are preferred. We mark the bar, outlining the dimensions of the handle. On the other edge of the workpiece, we mark the holes for installing the bristles. There should be an even number, since we will use pairs.
Important! Before starting work, it is recommended to create a sketch of the workpiece in the amount of 1: 1. If you have an old tool of this type, then you can use its dimensions as a basis.

At the next stage, we drill holes according to the marking, and grind the handle. We use a drill and a grinding machine for this.
Important! The diameter of the drill must match the diameter of the cable used for bristles.

We will make bristles from a cable. We need to cut it into equal parts, the number corresponding to half of the holes. The length of the segment should be two lengths of bristles + 3 cm.
Example! If it is necessary to obtain a brush with a bristle of 2 cm, then the length of the cable segment should be 7 cm.

We insert the finished segments into the holes according to the principle of a bracket. Occupying one piece of two cells. We align each segment, creating a kind of bristle on one side of the workpiece.

Next, squeeze the bar in a vise, and with a hammer, align the bending of the cables.

Attention! At this point, it is important to control so that future villi do not move. Otherwise, the brush will have bristles of different lengths.

At the next stage, we cut out a sheet from sheet metal that corresponds to the dimensions of the back of our workpiece. So we get a kind of latch for the villi.

We install the plate on the product, fixing it with nails.

We process the brush with a grinder to remove burrs and splinters. The finished product should be not only convenient, but also safe.

Using flat-nose pliers or round-nose pliers, slightly unwind the wire in each cable, creating a metal bristle.

The brush is ready to go.
