Self-made craftsmen often use a grinder as the basis for the manufacture of various machines and devices that can be useful to them in a home workshop or garage.

In this review, the author suggests making a simple mini grinder based on a small angle grinder. With it, you can process small workpieces of metal and wood. The design is fixed in a vice.

For the manufacture of this device you will need thick metal plates, pieces of profile pipes (rectangular and square section), a rear hub from a bicycle, a plastic roller with a bearing, bolts with nuts.

The main stages of work

First of all, it will be necessary to cut three blanks from the profile pipe, and weld the parts together, as shown in the photo below. Welds then need to be cleaned with a grinder.

Further, the author drills a hole in the lower profile pipe so that the angle grinder can be fixed with a bolt.

On the other side of the lower profile pipe, two more sections of the profile are welded. A hole for mounting a grinder is drilled in a vertical column.

After that, the author puts on the rear hub from the bicycle on the shaft of the angle grinder. It will also be necessary to prepare a plastic roller with a bearing on which the sanding belt will be worn.

The roller itself is attached to a thick metal plate, which in this case acts as a tensioner. The plate will need to be attached to the profile pipe. A powerful spring is put on it.

After that, all parts must be cleaned with a grinder and painted. Next, the author proceeds to assembly. For a detailed process of making a homemade mini grinder for a workshop based on a small angle grinder, see this video.
