Using simple "home" vices made from scraps of a metal corner, as well as some other improvised materials, you can firmly clamp various wood and metal blanks. For example, wooden bars or profile pipes.
To make a simple “home” vise with your own hands, you will need to trim a corner, a plate, a hairpin and a small steering wheel (instead of it, you can use a round valve, suitable in diameter).
The first thing we cut off from the corner is four workpieces of different lengths (two long and two short), and fix them with clamps, pre-setting them in the right position. Next, you will need to weld one short corner to two long ones. The remaining shorty will be mobile.
The main stages of work
After the fixed clamping jaw has been welded, a thick plate must be welded on the other side of the vise base. Then three ordinary nuts or one long one will be welded to it - they will act as a guide for the stud. A nut and a piece of plate must be welded to the movable sponge. 
After welding is complete, we beat off the slag and clean the seams with an angle grinder with a petal circle. Next, we fix the helm on the end of the stud, with the help of which the movable sponge will be controlled (moving it back and forth).
