Carbon dioxide cartridges that are used in airguns are usually thrown away after use. However, this approach is irrational - empty CO2 cans can be used as pens for various tools in the garage and workshop.
The most common use case for used spray cans is as handles for small files (files). A hole is drilled in the center for the diameter of the tail of the file.
Another hole is drilled on the side of the neck and a thread for the M3 screw is cut. The result is a simple interchangeable handle that fits comfortably in your hand. However, such a handle has one significant drawback - since the thread is small, it quickly "wears out".
How to make a reliable and durable handle
To make a homemade handle for a tool last longer, you can go the other way. To do this, in the empty carbon canister, you must first cut off the upper part, then a hole with a diameter of 6.7 mm is drilled and a thread for the M8 bolt is cut.
The hole for the file shank is drilled in the bolt itself, and it is advisable to grind the edges of the hat. A hole is drilled on the side, in which a thread is cut under the fixing screw. Two-component glue is poured inside the can, after which we immediately screw the bolt.
Next, we isolate the neck with electrical tape so that the glue does not leak out, turn the balloon over and leave it to dry for a while. Then a file is inserted, after which details can be processed.
Replaceable handles can also be made from empty cans for other tools - for example, for a screwdriver by welding it to the handle with an additional stop. More details about the use of homemade handles are described in this video.
