In the process of metalworking (drilling, milling, etc.), small chips remain that are not convenient to remove from the desktop with an ordinary brush. To simplify this task, you can make a homemade device, with which the collection of metal chips does not take much time.

Of the basic materials for this homemade product you will need: a wooden bar about 4-5 cm thick, a piece of plexiglass, an ordinary furniture hinge and several magnets in the form of rectangular plates. In the process, we will use the hand tools that are in every workshop - a chisel, a hammer and a screwdriver.

Manufacturing process

We make markings on a wooden bar and, using a hammer and a chisel, “hollow out” the seat under the furniture loop. In the center of the workpiece, it is necessary to choose a longitudinal groove to the width of the magnet. If there is no desire to bother with a hammer and a chisel, a groove can be made on a circular saw.

We mark it on the back of the wooden block, and then we drill two holes for the handle and fasten it to the bolts. Then you need to "plant" the magnets in a longitudinal groove on glue or epoxy. We drill holes in plexiglass and fasten it to a wooden block using a furniture hinge.

On the opposite side of the bar, it is additionally necessary to make a latch for the plexiglass cover. The metal chip collector is now ready for use. The main stages of work, see the video on our website. Write in the comments what you think about this device.
