Elements in the form of curls made of metal strips or square rods are widely used in art forging by the cold method. Such products are used in the manufacture of fences, gates, railings, benches, as well as in the interior of private houses.
For the quick manufacture of whorls of metal or square stripes, you can make a homemade machine. It can also be called a snail conductor. Please note that in the process of cold forging metal requires great effort. Therefore, the machine must be installed on a solid foundation.
First of all, we cut out a square base from a sheet of metal with a thickness of 6-8 mm, on which the "snail" itself will be located. Using a grinder, we cut off the excess metal in the corners. The result should be a circle. Grind the edge to remove burrs.
The main stages of work
In the central part of the circle we drill four holes of the same diameter. Then, from a suitable strip of metal (at least 40 mm wide), we bend the template, according to which curls will then be made. The template is welded to the base. Then we weld the emphasis, which can be made from a segment of a square.
We cut off a piece of steel pipe and press two bearings along the edges. Then we insert a round bar (shaft) into the holes in the bearings, to which a square with holes is welded. Then the billet itself is welded to the end of the profile pipe of rectangular cross section. We clean the welds with a grinder.
