A durable leather case not only protects the knife from the negative effects of aggressive environmental factors, but also becomes a beautiful “dress” for it to reach people. This accessory is useful to every man who carries a knife "on duty": a tourist, hunter, fisherman or ordinary summer resident.
To make a high-quality leather cover for a knife with your own hands without the use of machine equipment is not difficult, the main thing is to be diligent and accurate. The advantage of this method is that there is no need to draw a template, and then still cut the desired shape from the skin.
The main stages of work
We cut off two pieces of leather of a rectangular shape (the dimensions of the blanks are determined based on the width and length of the knife). Then we warm them with a hairdryer. A knife is placed on one half, and the second is placed on top - the resulting “pie” must be pressed as tightly as possible so that the skin completely fits the knife's shape. To do this, you can use this device (photo below).
After the skin has taken the necessary shape, we drill small holes along the contour of the knife, and then “flash” them with copper wire. All excess is neatly trimmed on a band saw. The edges of the leather case are machined on a grinding machine.
